Small group sessions included modules in biotechnology, anatomy and bioengineering, machine learning, electrical etching, fibonacci sequence and applied math, structural engineering, hydraulics, motors and turbines, and rockets. Our three-year STEM curriculum draws on collaboration, hands-on learning, and real-world problems to create engaging classroom experiences that girls both enjoy. On the evening they showed confidence when being quizzed by seven different judges in a dragon’s den style pitch. The girls had also chosen for Gizmo to be part of small communities within the country to provide education for both adults and children. Provide our girls with engaging STEM work. The robot (Gizmo) was designed to display medical advice, early warning systems and also manoeuvre over rough terrain. Their chosen country was Haiti as the area is prone to earthquakes. The group who called themselves ‘The Age of Gizmo’ designed an AI robot with a purpose of helping countries that are prone to natural disasters. The project ideas had to be submitted and sent to a panel of judges before the heats took part. The project was started in October and the group of students had been working on it every week up until the end of February. The challenge was set by ‘Soroptimist International Bournemouth’ and required the girls to design and build something that would benefit a poor country. ![]() The evening was held in the University’s newest facility, the Fusion building, and was heat 1 of 3 to decide which schools would make it to the final. On Tuesday 12 th March, 5 Year 8 girls took part in a STEM competition held at Bournemouth University. The 1-week Girls in Robotics Leadership (GIRL) camp, using the UC Davis C-STEM GIRL Camp curriculum, is focused on motivating middle school students through peer mentoring by college students to learn leadership and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts through a fun and exciting robotics-based curriculum. ![]() It is hoped that the recognition and panel.
